Default Trailer licence and work?

Hiya all just wondering if anyone that's got a trailer license and also is there much work about for them and also what's the money like?

Got a friend Stephen Kirkwood and he trains people up for it and the course isn't that much too do either good price actually.

Been talking too him today and even booked my first few lessons ready for next month after Gretna meet.

I passed in 2009 Been told that there some decent money too be made picking up classic cars and transporting them around the UK so I thought I'd go for it.

I'll check the thread now any pointers will be a great help.

Depending on how "above board" you want to be you'll need a couple of things like a fully licenced trailer with documents (otherwise police can seize along with goods) insurance to cover you, your goods and your assets along with public liability I'd have thought. Then on top you'll need a suitable trailer and towing vehicle. But to make it worth while you'd be better getting a recovery van and trailer so you can move two cars at a time.

Only problem is I don't think it pays that well. The only time I've ever paid for transportation or a car it was roughly £1 a mile for 100 mile trip. Take off £40 for fuel there and back, it works out at £60 the job. That's before you've factored in wear and tear or serving costs. You'd need two a day or one decent distance a day to make it worth while. But I do t know how much demand there is for vehicle deliveries.

I have a guy I use for moving cars about, he reckons classic cars and dodgy Ebay purchases are what keeps him going especially now the road tax does not transfer to the new owner.

As has been said about £1 a mile is all you will get, he reckons a flat bed pickup is about the best way to do it. He also tries to avoid Scotland as the Scottish police are very vigilant on total weights so he avoids heavy stuff from up there.

He has been looking at a 4.5 ton flat bed but this then means he needs a HGV licence and 6 week safety checks and even more costs.

The way to earn more is being available 24/7. He has had call outs in the middle of the night at even once on new years day but then you can charge double money but in these cases if people are that desperate they will pay. This means of course you cant drink.
