Just going for not the cheapest would probably do it but I would recommend FastBright F3 ballasts from AliExpress
Also morimoto bulbs or cnlight bulbs

I fitted a set to my car, and it hated it. The kit was then fitted to another diesel 75 with no problems at all. Some of these kits generate lots of RF noise which can be quite a problem to some of our cars, odd things happen like the service indicator re-sets itself and other problems.
The kits that seem within budget and mostly work well on the cars are SunWolf as found on Ebay. 3 cars on the fleet are enjoying it and giving much better light at night with no ill effects. I don't think relays will make any difference to this problem, even additional earthing still made mine go nuts !
Good luck Chris.

Found a couple of hours to play today.

results are :
with a halogen on the nearside any combination of ballast and bulb on the drivers side works fine with no ill effect at switch on. .

Any combination again works on the passenger side. Until you turn it on with engine running - at which point any combination results in engine death. .

two.. no three possibilities.
1. Wiring to nearside headlamp suspect.
2. Proximity to main fuse box is the problem.
3. LSM not handling the start-up draw to the nearside lamp.

Halogens back in and work fine...

Didn't get a chance to try nearside using relay yet. next time...

Chris, have you checked the wiring harness where it crosses the chassis rail under the fusebox known wear area

Hi, yes I did look there, There's a plastic cover over the raised seam on mine, No visible damage to the wiring that I could see, but would liked to have a mirror stick to help. May take a further look at it.
