I didnt find this in my experience. The ignition did not need to be reset.
I tested this with a series of bulbs, so no stat. When the switch cut out after about 15 mins, I was immediately able to switch it back on to illuminate the bulbs.

its weird Matt but without the relay mine wont come back on at all

Yes, I found your how-to invaluable.
Its one of those jobs that requires a knack of knowing just how much pressure and at what angle the clip removal tool or screwdriver needs to be to release the clips. Much easier on the second seat.
