I bought Banana with 60k the clock in 2010. She has been all over the UK attending shows, meets and holiday trips.

My Tourer is on 109K, bought in 2008. Original clutch and turbo. IMG/cam cover gasket and all belts recently replaced. Goes like new. Cracking motor.

The 1.8T can attain incredible mileage if looked after - we have many customers exceeding 100,000 miles and only basic maintenance needed.
The most common issues are head gaskets and turbos - but aside from these, the 1.8T seems absolutely solid. Very little in the way of electrical issues etc!

My 1.8T tourer has over 170,000 on the clock ! Bought as a £300 scrapper, two years on still running as sweet as a nut ! I actually prefer driving it to my Diesel saloon. You don't see many about now though. Got Jules to put one of his super fans in to keep it cool, and a digital temp read out so I can keep an eye on the temp. Has needed a new clutch and flywheel though, but can't really complain. Oh and I still keep a bottle of water in the spare wheel compartment just in case !
