I had a similar problem, and it was the EWS immobilizer unit at fault. The unit had been damaged by water ingress, corroded broken pins, has the car ever had water ingress into the driver side footwell?

Otherwise, have you checked the boot light goes out when the boot is closed? Also, do you have the door open warning light staying on, check the bonnet switch on the slam panel.

I'm sure others will be along to help.

Driver side footwell behind the kick-plate.
May be worth checking to see if the insides are corroded, just two TS30 5 point security torx screws to undo.

Its part of the immobiliser system, yes a replacement will need to be coded to your car, anyone of the T4 guys can do this. I'm not saying this is your problem, further investigation is obviously needed, you need the likes of Brain to jump in on the thread.

Gordon's EWS arrived today...........Hmmm

So what do we reckon? water damage perhaps ?

It's currently undergoing intensive care, but I'm not going to hold my breath, in addition pin 10 is missing from the unit, so more than likely is still attached to the plug in Gordon's car.

Let's see what can be done

Yep! Pin 10 will most likely still be stuck in the plug, that's where mine was...

I'd say so Wes

I cleaned the corrosion from the board to find two driver transistors had failed, so I jury rigged a new pin into position 10, and read the data from Gordon's EWS.

It has now been summarily dispatched into oblivion, and I've transferred all of the coding data to a nice new fully functioning unit

All boxed up ready for it's return journey now

Gordon will need to check his EWS plug before fitting the replacement, otherwise it won't connect though
