Thanks Simon

Yes, this time I did it exactly to the oil check procedure. Previously I was not removing the dipstick for 5 mins prior to checking.
There is no oil residue in the air filter, and only very slight when I removed the breather pipe from throttle body.
I don't really want to start taking the cam cover off (my back no longer puts up with bending over engine bays fro very long). Are there any other tell tale signs that I might need to?

Anyone got any ideas?

Did you actually check the oil level after the service? Maybe it was half a litre short from the start?

Hello T-Cut

No I didn't, and I have thought the same thing, though i do think they were legit. But I really can't see where the oil would be going and, as I say, the car's only just clicked 60k and seems a really tight healthy engine.
I will keep a check.
I'm off to France in it in a month, so I hope its all good.

I think you are up the road from me in Bexhill aren't you?

But it is half a litre short now after adding half a litre. I can't believe they would have left me a litre short after an oil service. The receipt says 5 litres.

The capacity is 5.2 litres.
Has the engine a history of consuming oil?
If it is only apparent since this oil change, I think they could have checked the level incorrectly or when cold.

Now you have the level half way between min and max, I would monitor it.

With the dipstick located where it is getting a proper reading relies on the car being on a dead level surface.
I checked the oil level on my KV6 Freelander today with it parked on sideways angle, (front to rear it was level), and it gave me a scare reading below minimum. When I got it home and on a level surface it read about 25% over the low mark.
I do have a catch tank on that engine and it recovers about 250mm of fluid every 500 miles. It is a mix of oil and water (likely condensate). I'm planning on installing one on my ZT 190 as well.

So I've been looking for an oil leak or other tell tale signs for losing oil.
The only evidence seems to be the Camshaft seal cap on the timing belt side.
Do you think this would lose enough oil over a few thousand miles?
And where is it going as there is no pooling of oil anywhere, though slight evidence on pipe work.
The engine and engine under tray are bot very clean?

Just to end this thread.
Oil leaking slowly from both cam end cover seals.
Now replaced and hopefully no more oil consumption.
Finger crossed anyway.
