Will see if this makes a difference to the mpg, found the info on maf and map sensors in how to section.

Not sure if your gauge is faulty as the commonly held view is that at normal running temp -and 84 seems reasonable for a diesel - the gauge needle should be at quarter to nine - others more experienced in the diesel will hopefully comment.

The gauge should be at 9.00, did you fit the correct inline stat?

Ordered my own inline stat today - my gauge sits at the very first line from the bottom of the gauge!

However - after a service (all filters , gearbox and engine oil changes) , today I had to refill - 54 litres and it did 478 on the previous tank; am I right thats just over 40mpg - pure urban miles as well.

The stat was purchased from dmgrs, so I assume it is the correct one. Unfortunately I didn't check the coolant temp before fitting the the stat but the gauge has moved from 7 to 8 oclock so some improvement.
