Housework and washing today. Off up to the tip later, we’ll after i’ve had my elevenes’s. Then into town to the post office. And finally getting the Bear prepared for her trip at the end of the week.

Bleedin' cold here but had to do a bit in the garden. There's a small walled raised section at the back door, two holes appeared in it the last couple of days, too large for mice, either that or they're very well fed(!), suspect long tails. Surrounded by woodland and open grass here, they appeared in the same bit once before. Can't use anything chemical (poisons etc) because of the girls so followed advice on the net, solidly plugged the holes with coarse wire wool then filled them in. See if any more appear.
In my father's time had bother with moles in the same bit. Never really understood how a mole managed to get into a walled raised section My father attacked them with smoke bombs, wasn't that effective but it was bløødy hilarious, my father would light them then disappear in a cloud of smoke before he ever got the thing down the hole

Hi Steve, the old ways from our garden in Nairobi.

Step 1: dig round the top of the mole hill to uncover.
Step 2: place a large bake bean tin cut both ends off.
Step 3: place raw potato slices inside tin.
Step 4: make a wire noose and suspend from a branch/twig, bent like a bow for tension.
Step 5: recover hole and it is then a matter of waiting could take 24 hours. Noose open inside can.

No chemicals involved and it works.
