Sunblind Issues
A number of members have had problems with sunblinds not working or working off and on, so just wanted to start a dicsussion thread of any interested parties.
The advice is sometimes to give the motor a tap which seems to spring it into life, but not always and if you have seen the excellent how to by curriemart ( link below ) this could even be the cause of the broken magnets inside the motor casing. http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...ad.php?t=54584 I have just read on Rave that the sunblind switch has a low voltage disable circuit which isolates the controller circuit and prevents sunblind operation if the battery voltage decreases to 11.8 volts or below, so could this be another reason why some dont work, through not having a fully functional battery which as we know can cause other problems on the car I know not everyone has a sunblind but it is a desirable mod and they can only get more expensive, so if we can get to the bottom of the causes we may be onto a winner for the future and keep repair costs down

Not sure Rob.
On Pauls car, the switch seemed to be providing power, but the motor didn't operate. After I applied a voltage directly to the motor it seemed to work better. I wonder if the commutators are oxidising a bit if they aren't used for a while. Shouldn't happen but I don't completely trust the people who make the motors after one of their technical guys tried to BS me. The tapping cure might also overcome this. I think it might be worth making a lead to be able to apply 15 direct to the motor on any that appear faulty, to see if they magically come to life. This could be done at the switch end by unplugging the proper switch. Going on the thickness of the steel casing of the motors youd need quite a whack to crack those ceramic magnets. I'd say it's more likely been dropped on the stripped one in the pictures, but anythings possible. Note, I'm only making an observation here, not accusing anyone of anything in case anyone thinks that! |

Not having had the need to operate ours for a couple of years.... you've guessed it, while we were on holiday in Spain it would not raise.
A bit of poking around at the blind while operating the switch at the same time with the engine at fast tickover and it sprang to life. So sounds likely that the motors stick. OK each time since. |

I put mine up and down at least once a week just to keep everything moving and have never had any problems (touch wood!)
