Default help please, external 3TB esata drive

I need a 3TB Esata external hard drive.
A Google search brings up hard drives but they then talk about usb
can you advise on a reliable 3tb external esata hard drive?
I'm not too savvy when it comes to things like this so treat me gently

cheers

Get yourself a drive caddy and you can put whatever size you like in it

Thanks rogue,
this took me some time to I think understand. Is this just a case and I then buy and fit a hard drive inside?
If the above is correct could you recommend a 3tb hard drive?
How does the hard drive connect to this unit?

is it possible to power the hard drive via the esata cable from the main unit?

Yes, the hard drive goes inside. It will have an internal plug that you connect to the hard drive you purchase then you use the external plug to connect it to your computer.
The unit i linked to, and i think most i've seen, have an external power supply.
I'm not sure if the Esata connection provides enough power to run a drive.

Something like that will do the job but depends on what you need it for and how work critical your requirements are?

I may be wrong, but eSATA connections are for internal use. Using a caddy will still involve connecting to the computer via a USB socket.

Caddies are indeed just cases that convert an internal harddrive into an external one, and normally use an external power supply.

My questions would be, do you need an external hard drive? ie Do you need to move data from one computer to another? If not, can your computer accept another internal hard drive? if it can, it will likely be cheaper to go down that route. (I am currently contemplating a 3 TB hard drive to wipe my current set up.

Sata are internal... the 'E' stands for external
