There's a torque specified for the cylinder block drain plug Billy: 20 Nm. The problem is that, due to the proximity of the exhaust manifold, there's very little room available for the head of the torque wrench. You won't be far off if you have to use an ordinary, standard length ring spanner.

OK job done. I cleaned up the bolt, dried the threads in the hole as best I could with paper towel, gave the first 3 threads on the bolt a generous dollop of loctite and replaced it with my 13mm aviator spanner. Having refilled the coolant and been out on a couple of short journeys, the drive is bone dry. This happened last time however so I won't be convinced just yet. Seems promising though...

So the saga continues. I did the drain plug and I revisited the thermostat - it has no leaks. I tightened up the intake bolts and all the hose clips.
She's leaking again on my drive and the coolant is dripping off this clip with nothing leaking above it. In the photo I'm looking up at the front side of the engine. Is it the head gasket? Thanks |

No it isn't Billy.
Are those the only two droplets you're seeing? They look extremely red. Is the expansion tank level noticeably decreasing? Simon

Hi Simon no I was watching it drip from that location making a small puddle on my drive - maybe one every 20 seconds or so. It doesn't drip forever and only seems to happen after more aggressive driving. The previous few days I pootled around town no more than 30mph and there was no leak. Yesterday I did some motorway and on return could see it dripping. I jacked her up immediately to see if I could isolate the source and this is the only place I can see coolant coming from. Oh and yes the drop in the expansion tank is noticeable - I won't risk driving for her now till I attempt another fix. Any other thoughts?
