Default Belts changing

Guys, am looking for recommendations to get timing belts and thermostat changed on my ZT 190

I live in Leeds/York area.

Have already contacted Mg-Rover Mobile Mechanics from Derby, but they can't do until April 2022, and I need this month ideally

Cheers

Andrew

Take it to lates in Coventry Andrew, well worth the trip and will be done as you wait and watch.

As Andy says, take it to Lates near Coventry/Corby. You will certainly learn something while you watch them work on your car.

At the risk of sounding boring, I'm going to add another recommendation for Lates. They've done my belts twice now, both time whilst I watched (and asked a myriad of daft questions).

You won't go wrong with them working on your car, and they're not expensive either.

Default Timing belts

Cliff, I wonder how much they charge?
Been quoted £600 so far - was hoping for nearer the £450 I have seen mobile mechanics do the job for, but need it doing in next week or so.

Beware of some mobile mechanics Andrew, I have seen and heard others on here report timing incorrectly set, for peace of mind I would be paying the extra few pounds.

From memory, I think it's around £550 or so for belts and water pump, but to be honest, I doubt you'd get it done in the next week or so. Bear in mind, mechanics with a good reputation are likely to be popular, and their booking time will reflect this.

If you want to go down the mobile route, I can also happily recommend Russell at https://mgroversolutions.com/ . He rebuilt my KV6 on my drive to cure piston slap and knows these engines like the back of his hand. He's based in Kent, but has been known to travel huge distances, so may be worth a call.

Andrew,

Whoever you choose to renew your timing belts, make sure that they have the unique adaptor plates for the MG 190 (and 180) engines. These aren't normally included in the commercial timing tool kits but are available from DMGRS.

If anyone claims to do it without these service tools, walk away.

Regarding your thermostat, don't routinely change it. Members report that replacements are now not the specified 88˚ spec. leading to low running temperatures. Do you have pools of coolant in the 'V'?

She has been drinking coolant a bit more of late.

Default Adaptor plates

Simon

Thanks for the advice on the adaptor plates - just emailed Matt to see if he has stock. How may do I need?
