Glow plugs.-The light goes out but the glow plug carries on working until the ECU tells it that the engine the engine has no more need of it.--
Like the automatic enrichment of the fuel gets less as the engine warms up.

This is why I rounded the values to nice numbers as there are many variables (as I stated!).

Not wishing to put you on the spot, but would you like to agree or disagree with my nominal value of a total current of 30Amps for 4 seconds?

Item 3-- I use a solar charger which puts in around 1.2 watts to compensate for the normal internal losses of a lead acid car battery.

Item 7--The lead to the cigar lighter is heavy duty and thus will have minimum voltage loss. It can carry enough current to make the lighter Glow.

And a very merry Christmas to you and all...

1, I have no the slightest idea what that was supposed to mean.

3, Solar chargers struggle inside my dark garage

7. Yes, I thought for years without checking, that it ought to be adequate, but if you check the volts drop between socket and battery, you will find it is quite excessive. Not adequate for recharging a battery within a reasonable time frame. A bit of volts drop will not bother a ciggy lighter, whereas a reduction in applied volts can seriously extend the recharge time. Try it with say a 4amp charger, measure the drop and report back.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Hi there Harry.

All I meant in item one is that the limiting factor for charging lead acid batteries is internal heat generated by charging. Must not get hotter than bath water or H2O losses start to occur.---In the old days you could always add a drop of distilled water through the filler caps.--Nowadays any water losses can't be rectified because the batteries are all sealed except for a tiny vent hole.--

Yep - that was the mistake in the table COLVERT did not pick up on. The spelling is correct in my post but incorrect in the table.

Can you drill a small hole in the filling cap, use a syringe to top up the water, tape over the hole afterwards ?

Yes you could but a small rubber plug would be better in contact with acid---------------However it's far better not to try to charge a lead acid battery too fast.--Those garage fast chargers are battery killers.--

My last battery, with a bit of TLC, lasted well over eight years.
