My approach would be to take the car to a local member who has a fully sorted diesel for a performance comparison. Most people can easily tell if another car of the same type performs better or worse than their own. Personally, I find the 131 CDT to be a perfectly satisfactory drive. One with a 160 remap should be quite sprightly. |

Brip.----I see from the statistics you are no longer a spring chicken.--
Personally I find my 114 bhp engine performs very well. It has to be in good condition though with everything working at the optimum best. However as you seem to be entering your second childhood I totally understand the need for speed.-- I'm 84 and My 130 bhp motorbike weighing in at 5 cwt seems -----( 0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds. ) to be quite adequate for my need for speed.--- |

My last one (30 years ago now ) was similar. Not many cars will compare with a quick bike for performance... maybe a Veyron! My last car before the Rover (11 years ago) was an E36 M3, also a fun toy, and still available pretty cheaply Liverpool Road, Nawf Lahndan, c. 1988

Heh - N Ireland. But I lived in Muswell Hill throughout the 80s, and commuted into the City on a series of bikes - Z650, RD400, 3 x GPZ1100 (2 nicked), 2 x GPZ900 Ninja (1 blew up), finally 2 x GSXR1100 (first one written off down Highgate West Hill). Looks like something out of Star Wars!

Don't mix tuning boxes with remaps. Or really, don't use tuning boxes at all.
The seals on the pumps are not getting any younger so more people seem to be finding issues with the unknown rail pressures causing leaks. Best bang for buck is a decent custom remap. There's options out there but really it wants to be done by a MG specialist. I've seen a range of remaps for the ZT over the years which range from OK to downright trash. For power over 150hp you're going to need a bigger turbo. Either a TD04 for ~170hp or the E39 530D VNT unit for bigger results. The TD04 is a simple bolt on with only needing an adapter plate. The E39 530D VNT isn't much more work now and only needs a solenoid wiring in, the ECU takes care of the VNT now |
