Among a few other jobs on the 75 this weekend I had a look at the bolts securing the front headlight surround/ grille surround/ bumper to the slam panel, and also some YouTube videos showing how to remove the bumper.

As I suspected the lower fixings and the screws in the wheel arch are likely to give problems as they've never been removed and live in a hostile environment.

So my question is this. If I just remove the 10 10mm bolts at the top, i.e. those above the grille, am I likely to be able to be able to pull the grille far enough forward to get a hand behind it to secure the badge with whatever backing plate/ nut it uses?

Probably, but to make it even easier, take out the 2 bolts under the wheel arch, then you can tilt the whole bumper forward. May I suggest also, replace the slam panel bolts with stainless steel, Much better.

Right Vincent, I've just been out to remind myself how they are fitted. The badge comes with a same shape back plate, fitted with 2 threaded bars. the 2 parts are fitted like a sandwich between the bars of whatever you're fitting to. I've also noticed that the rear shaped piece on mine is almost rusted away So I'll need to take mine off to prevent losing it Hope that makes sense?

I'll have a look but my understanding is that these are often unwilling to come undone?

EDIT to add that I've ordered the badge from the club shop now, as well as this vintage Green Flag badge from ebay (I'm actually a member of Green Flag although I've only ever needed to use them once since I bought the 75, when a front coil spring snapped on the M6 when we were going on holiday) so I guess I'll just have to work out how to do it. I might wait until one of my sons visits as I find most jobs easier when there's someone else along to help out.

Used to have the club badge on the front but it faded so I took it off. I do have the window stickers in all of them.

My mk2 metro still has an original aa badge on it.

I have polished my faded club badge and it is as new again. Use a medium to fine compound and preserve with a good wax.

Took mine off after 10 years on the car, the back plate had just about corroded to a wafer, but the badge is okay

As you can see mine has pride of place, bought another at the NEC show for the V8 but haven't got round to fitting that yet as she won't be on the road until all the salt has disappeared!

Must get some new MG badges though!!
