I feel like calling it a day on my Rover. What a rotten Xmas present.
That does not sound excessively excessive!

Terry Shaw replaced mine and from memory it took about 2 hours but he is a real expert on our cars. It requires the bumper to be removed, fluid drained, refilled with Dexron 3 etc. If the garage charges an hourly rate of £50 + VAT, that is also not excessive.

A reconditioned pump at say £130 plus fluid + VAT is also not excessive.

In future you may wish to drive 20 miles to Stowmarket and use my trusted garage for any work on the 75 - Old Forge Garage on the A140. I suspect their labour charge would have been around £100+VAT.

Hi MSS

The charge of £300 + vat for a recon. pump is very excessive in my view.
Their hourly labour rate is very reasonable at £50 + vat.

I have used them for the last six years but happy to try someone else.

I had a problem with them a year back over a duff battery, so should have stopped then!

My point is they should have checked first if I would pay so much for the pump. I was aware a used one starts about £35 and up to £185 for a new one.
This isn't even a new one.
Kindest regards

John

mss is quite right. i have just replaced my pump. it was squealing like a pig. its the third replacement having used used parts . this time i bought a recon. £135 delivered . i have another now in stock for if and when i need it. the problem is you dont know the history or milage on a used pump. i had to go in there again to change the alternator for a new one as that was whining too , but i could not hear it due to the noise from the old pump. thats twice now inside a week. its not a bad job but it is work intensive, so i think what you paid was pretty reasonable upon reflection. 4 or 5 years ago these recon pumps were on ebay at around £70. not an exchange either. most sellers in every industry are upping prices trying to claw back pandemic losses , and there is only going to be one person footing the bill. ... your truly.

You didn't say but it would be interesting to know how much that cost you.--( Compared to the cost in those earlier posts. )
