Page 37 onwards. An operating profit of 1.8% of revenue is hardly being greedy. You would not think it was a good return if it was your money

Exactly, thanks for that! For just a moment I thought I was the only one! There's more to trade than profit, more to money than counting it. Profit is good, even vital, but there are other considerations than raw greed in this world. I might even kick a few money lender's counting tables over if I ever enter such a place! Long live the Coop and all it stands for!.

Whilst agreeing that the profit level is pathetic, it seems obviously to me why - too high prices, so customers are only buying a minimum spend. They are not going in to do their weekly big spend shop. Trolleys are left unused, most are not even needing to use a basket, their entire buy is in their hands and arms, often a single item. Paying for a couple of items at the till, costs almost as much staff time as if it were numerous items.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Reduce prices will increase spend but how much difference will it make to the 1.8% profit ratio?
It is catering for a different market than Aldi etc.

Not really that much different, they sell a mixed bag of food, just as Aldi/Lidl do. Tesco/Asda/Morrisons etc. had to learn to be more competitive on price. It's not true that the coop have no big stores, they just don't have as many, they tend to concentrate more on the smaller convenience sized ones - but even so they are not competitive compared to the other convenience stores around them, on identical products.

All I can say is that the nay-Sayers obviously have never tasted the Co-op's own All Butter Fruity Flapjack Cookies.

https://shop.coop.co.uk/product/b3d2...e-b7b61551d0fb

This one reason is enough to keep shopping at the Co-op.

By comparison, Aldi and Lidl sell peasant's cookies.

Another reason for celebration of that product is it is made in Manchester, England. They used to sell Eccles cakes, the tops of which delicacy were finished with melted sugar. Try them warm, or even hot, with double cream and a (small) glass of Scotch Malt.

Surely single malt rather than scotch!
