Those car/boaters obviously never got their fair share.-- Having said that about risk assessments I really, really hated having to use up my time doing those things for lots of other folks. |

I agree. I used to have to do them when running projects to calculate the likely fee (profit) on the program and also to calculate the likely schedule impact. A question of tabulating all the risks and the likelyhood of them happening and then the same for opporunities (negative risks). Do not miss it. Now the only risk calculation I do is whether it is going to rain whilst I am out walking the dogs. |

Of course there is, no one with any sense would just plough into a ford of completely unknown depth, unless their mind was not on their driving or they it was a life or death situation. I have crossed many fords, but I have twice come across floods of unknown depths. Once up near Blackpool, middle of the night and I stopped waited to see if a local might come driving along to let them go ahead and see how deep it might be. No one turned up, it was a fairlu isolated road, so I progressed very slowly and very carefully. Second time, towing in Wiltshire, the main road was flooded and as far as I could see - I waited, another car came along, obviously a local slowed right down and they had no problem so I followed slowly, again without a problem. Sometimes local knowledge can be very useful.

Nor I, it felt so very silly doing what I had done all of my working life without even need to think about it. If you bang your head on a wall and it hurts, then you naturaly learn to be more careful for next time.
