2001 2.5 KV6 Conn Auto, Crankshaft Pulley Locking tool
Hi Folks
Trying to find one of these,I know there are a lot out there for the diesel, but the only one for the KV6 I can find is supplied by Rimmers. Which when combined with postage is (to Western Australia)expensive. If I could see an example I might be able to make my own version.Or If anyone knows of any others. Any advise most welcome. Kind Regards Dan Gardner |

I don't know of any others Dan, in fact I thought that tool was completely unobtainable now.
Some time ago a club member made one from scratch and posted a proper engineering drawing of his design which I have filed somewhere. As it's essentially a heavy duty hexagonal (I think) block with a large hole in the centre, a fully equipped mechanical workshop would be required to make one. Simon

i have one of the kv6 crankshaft holding tools which i purchased 7/8 yrs ago on ebay.very heavy and also very expensive. the drawing that you refer to simon is still on the club website.posted i believe by BIENET1 (i think its spelt correctly ) it is in his how to for cambelts change that he did an excellent post on. his drawing link is still on there i believe if thats any help. other than that to borrow or hire a tool might be another option as the kv6 was used in quite a number of vehicles home and abroad.

myrova, if you use the google search button at the top of this page, and type in MY CAMBELT CHANGE it should come up .if you read back the long post a PDF file of the tool is on there to download. however i would have thought beg steel or borrow might well be the cheaper option ..

I fabricated one when I did my belts. Not pretty, but worked very well. I had a breaker bar on the end of it to brace against the floor. I posted more detail in 2020, but IIRC it was a 50mm AF tool from ebay with 8mm bar screwed to 3 of the flats and 10mm to the opposite 3. (I couldn't find 9mm bar). |

I have had good luck on several KV6's using an impact gun to loosen the crank pulley bolt along with a strap wrench on the pulley, as well as the crank locking pin to stop the crank from turning.
I will be doing the job again shortly and have invested in a 160nm torque limiting stick for tightening the bolt with the impact during reassembly. For the holding plate shown in the previous thread for those without access to a lathe (and the skills required!) it would be much easier to make one up by welding flat stock.
