Default Door Handle slack, is this common?

I've noticed the drivers door handle particularly, and the passengers to an extent, have a lot of slack when pulling the handle before it actually pulls on the mechanism.

I'm guessing the cables stretch?
Do many people get this problem and is there a fix out there?
I did read somewhere about placing a washer somewhere but I couldnt figure it out

Wow another problem to add to your Signature at the bottom of your post.

Some folk seem to have nothing but problems.

I've replaced the front suspension lower arms and bushes and that's the total.
( in 13 years. ) Was like new when I bought it with 17,000 miles on the clock.---

PS. And my door handle is perfect.

Tell me about it haha it was my partners first car, knowing what I do about cars now I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, but its getting to the points of sentimental value versus more work compared to the work done. We got it with 170k on the clock, shes upto 250k now!

That being said, the engines never given us any trouble, past a flat battery and dead camshaft sensor

Sentimental Value you say---

Well in the current pandemic crisis this might be relevant.

Posted it quite some time ago but I can't find where

The fear of travel is really bad
you'll end up twitching or even mad.

To give it up would be a dream
but then you wake and start to scream.

Another day, a day in hell
you'd risk the train but what a smell.

Those unwashed bodies all around
another thing, that awful sound.

People coughing, sneezing germs
you'll never, ever come to terms.

The Covid virus in the air
it settles down you know not where.

Public transport will take you far
but you'd much rather go by car.

Your private quiet lovely space
the grin starts creeping 'cross your face

You snuggle down, you spin the wheel
you rocket off your tyres squeal.

This affair will never be over
because you simply LOVE your Rover.

Signed.=
A nonny mouse.

Even if all four door handles are slack.--Lol.

Both internal and external handles seem to have too much slack. The auto locking doesn't help when "uneducated" passengers try to "yank" the door open when it is auto-locked!

Hi Tom.
I doubt the cable will have stretched never seen one yet, you need to removed the centre blank cap, then remove the holding screw, the handle will then come away from the card.

Check the cable is in the slot sometimes they pop out.

If the hook as broken you could do the mend above, but if that was the case the door would not open.

Another reason could be the spring on the handle as failed, then you need to replace the handle.

photo of how the cable is attached to the handle and the lock.

when you switch on the lights from the off position , just pause for a second or so before turning on the dipped beam. on start up when the sidelights illuminate the LSM will do a system check, which you will hear as the motors pull the units up and down. that extra draw of current may be the cause of your bulbs blowing. this is of course partly speculation as to why and im not 100 % sure its correct. however it did make a difference to mine !!
