Default Auto Gearbox Jatco JF 506 E

This is the only automatic gearbox in our Rover cars (25, 45 & 75 ) paired with all engines, according to documentation. The reverse break band is either snapped or fallen in the gearbox as there heavily going forward and no Reverse either. Is there is a way to hook it back without opening the box ? Can anyone advise ?
PS: I do not get why: " You may not post attachments " ?

I think you need to be a subscribed member. See button on top right hand side of screen. Well worth £10

Well, are you really sure your reverse brake band is has broken? I seem to recall there was an issue on the early model years that the reverse piston would crack and cause the loss of reverse gear. This issue was fixed in subsequent years with an updated piston. Or, something to that effect. Hoping someone with a better memory can elaborate. Either way, I think your transmission will have to be opened up.

As for posting attachments, it may be possible after you have made a minimum number of posts - 10 maybe?

Most likely a cracked reverse piston.
Gearbox will need opening up but can be done without taking it from the car.

there is also a bolt which must not be disturbed , and can be mistaken for the ATF drain plug. if it has been then its a strip down job. reverse gear is lost apparently , and the bolt has to be rectified from within the box. there is a detailed post on here if you do a search for cracked reverse piston repair . up on the google search bar above.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that little hornet's nest. An accident waiting to happen for those who don't know and don't pay attention to the details of the manual.

the O.P does not mention if the ATF has been changed or indeed has the CORRECT type of fluid or even enough fluid to the CORRCT level. the other thing is that the car is a 2005 year and should have the thicker re enforced reverse piston. however it could still be the problem. he should start with the basics first i think. correct fluid type change and then move forward from there.

Go for the cheapest option.

Have the gearbox drained and re-filled with the correct fluid first.

For reference this picture shows the dreaded bolt that releases the reverse band. (Marked in red).
The green marked bolt is the plug to remove when checking the fluid level.
Why they didn't lockwire or otherwise secure the reverse bolt I have no idea.

Question

Is this a view of the top, bottom, left, right, front or rear of the auto gearbox ?
