On both my 75 and MG, the drivers side window has streaks of oil on the glass when I close the window. Cause / solutions / ideas please

Where are you cars parked? My first thought is the oil hasn't come from the cars.

Hi Roger.

I'm not sure how oil could get onto the glass (I'm assuming the outside of the glass) from anything that's inside the door itself - window mechanisms/door locking etc. I'm sure the more knowledgeable will be along shortly to advise if there is.

You're going to need something to get rid of the oil and probably to decontaminate the window seals which I'm guessing will have collected a fair amount and will be putting it back on the window every time you open/close them.

Your options will be a chemical solvent maybe white spirit/petrol/acetone or a water based one - a degreaser.

Do you know if it's a mineral oil - like, say, engine oil or if it could be plant based? Something from a tree etc. that's "dripped" onto the glass and been wiped up and down the window.

Post #2 from Arctic here is very helpful:

Sorry if that's not particularly specific but hopefully it'll be a starting point.

Good luck.
