I couldn't do gearbox replacement so garage did it. Eejit didn't put anything back nor replaced/fitted the bits I gave him re oil seals new reverse swithc etc. In addition for some reason had mumper off etc and didn't sit the outside temp bracket back to bumper. It dragged on who knows how long before getting ripped off. I know it was as outside temp went to -30 instantly. There was no loss in performance except for heating system, in that the aircon believing it was -30 outside wouldn't kick in as it was height of summer which was a right pain.

Quick update.
Had the OBD scanner on it yesterday and it showed no faults at all. My local mechanic is very busy at the moment so it was only a brief test. Something that is puzzling me is how do you adjust Idle speed on these modern engines? When cold the engine idles absolutely fine at about 1200 RPM. It didn't idle this smooth until i replaced the outside temperature sensor though. This is what is getting to me about this. When the engine is up to temperature it is Idling at around 700 RPM....Which i think is too low. When i (Slowly) put my foot on the accelerator and get the revs up to about 8 or 900 it idles perfectly. @lionatus I'm sure all these 'Sensors' are very useful but they are sent to test us in some way or other..! Edited: To add. As i understand it the ECU controls the idle speed. Is there any simple way to over ride this? Like turning a screw with a screw driver? Jeez i do miss old tech where you could adjust things yourself.

Another thing guys.
I'm going to replace the Cam belt as soon as i can as there is no history of it being changed and having removed the top cover i noticed the cam belt is stamped 'Fiat' so i'm guessing it's the original one. Still looks in good nick though. The cam lock kit comprises of two elements. The Crank lock...Which looks like a large key and also the Cam lock tool. My question is.. If the Crank is locked with the key how can the cam move? Am i missing something here?

I would think after the belt is removed with the crank locked the cam's can move with pressure from the valve springs

I've got the 2.5 KV6, and mine shows 650-700 rpm on the tacho, as best as I can eyeball it. The idle is smooth. Is yours misfiring down at that speed?

But absolutely fine @ 800 or 900 RPM.! I don't like the thought of something electronic taking away my sensory perception and me not being able to manualy adjust things. I hope that makes sense. Cheers

As I say, the engine designers know much better than us what is the best idle speed. Of course, if you feel strongly enough to tolerate some possible safety risks you could always bodge some kind of stop that prevents the throttle closing all the way, so the ECU "thinks" you are holding a small throttle opening. But you didn’t hear me recommend it.

The idle speed of a standard 1.8 engine is 750 +/- 50 rpm. You've listed your engine as VVC which I understand wasn't a factory option for the 75. Could that be the reason that your idle isn't smooth? Simon

I would regap the plugs to .75/8 mm, reset the iacv by turning the ignition on but not starting, press the accelerator pedal 5 times quickly, turn off, then start the car. It might just be a vvc inlet manifold Simon, same as mine 😎
