Absolutely, I still get the ‘old man’ jokes and the ‘can’t believe you still own a Rover’ but is that a bad thing? As long as your happy it’s ok to be different.

Well done Cai; I'm sure when it comes to moving out of your Uni accommodation you will be able to fit everything into your car in one go, rather than the numerous journies your friends have to make; and you will still be comfortable.

Of course it's not an old man's car. Just look at the age profile of the membership. Most are somewhat below 90 years of age.

Its just the lazy and rather unpleasant way in which people like to categorise others. As Les4048 states Rover has always had that image, it was "mature" long ago, now people use "old man"as a slight. Chris S

Well Rover used to make nothing but rubbish, then Honda came on board and things improved, but the brand had a definite non sporting feel to the drive. Then allong came the 16valve k series, and a few half hearted attempts at some "sporty" models. Rover sport did their bit with the tomcat and 16v honda engined 200 race series, there was even a failed attempt at a rally version of the 25, but a 1900 K series was never going to last. During this period my own attempts at racing an m16 metro had considerable help from Rover Sport - cheap parts, free parts, stickers, sow on badges etc, and nice people to deal with at the factory. But undeniably they were still perceived as "grandad cars".
Then the MG Z series came allong, too late I suppose, and with not enough added performance from the engines. My wife still calls my zt 190 a grandad car, but I still like it, mostly, even after 100k miles as my daily driver, so it can't be bad. My next car? Looking at volvo t5 or saab 9-5 turbo - does that mean I'm a confirmed grandad car driver? |

Leather seats, walnut trim, analogue clock - love all that retro stuff. Why not cut out years of tinny doors, plasticity trim and under-powered engines - good on you Cai.
