Q2. Do you vote for the person or party. Party.
Q3. Do you know the name of the person you voted for. No (well, I did because I noticed a name on the voting slip next to the party I voted for. But I have forgotten it since).

Forgive me for a slight tangent - but I believe the issue is very much who did we vote for? - the party or the individual?

All of those who have walked away from their party - whichever one - have done so because they feel the party has moved significantly away from the core values they joined that party for.

I also feel that our democracy is compromised by the Whip system. It would be better if all votes were free votes.

I would also like to see a compulsory vote system as in Australia. Blair had a 179 seat majority in 1997 and that was achieved with only 44% of those who voted and about a third of those that were eligible to vote.

So whilst I applaud those that are making a stand based on principle (tho’ having watched Soubry for years she - to me - seems duplicitous and vindictive) I feel the result will be a waste of time as the entire system needs an overhaul.

Proportional Representation is key, as is doing away with the system of Party Whips.
