Default SRS question

Right, so having got my 75 almost sorted, there are a couple of what I hope are minor issues. At the last MOT one of the advisories was that the 'SRS lamp does not illuminate'. At the time I thought surely that would be an MOT fail ... but no, just an advisory.

My thinking is this: that a previous owner, on seeing the SRS light come on, has gone and unplugged something to get rid of it - but that this has also got rid of the SRS check procedure at startup. When I was behind the scuttle panel under the steering wheel just lately, I did find a cable with a floating, ie not-plugged-in-to-anything connector at the end. I'll try and get a pic of it and post it here.

My question is, is there simply something you can unplug, a fuse, a cable as above, etc, that will stop the SRS system from initialising? I'd have assumed it wasn't as easy as this, but you never know.

Second-guessing again, I figure that the connectors under the seat/s may be the issue, but that the previous owner didn't know about these.

Any thoughts welcome

I would check the instrument cluster, it wouldn’t be the first time that we had seen that the led warning light had been broken so it doesn’t illuminate. Maybe worth giving BigRuss a shout

Wouldn't be the first time the LED for the SRS warning light has been removed, taped over or obscured. What you have to keep in mind is if the light is illuminated there is a fault and one or all the airbags will not deploy. You are correct, the vast majority of airbag lights are caused by the underseat connectors, can be either the connectors for the airbags or the ones for the seat belt pre-tensioners under both front seats.

First thing I would do, would be to do a IPK diagnostic mode 19 select subsection 2.1 and see if the light comes on

Here is an example from when I was bench testing a IPK only the other day, please ignore the amount of car batteries there

Thanks for the replies fellas. I really hope someone hasn't broken the light. What a crazy thing to do anyway. I'll try the IPK test, see what comes up. Will have to google 'how to do IPK test' first, obviously...

Edit. If the SRS light has been 'disabled', would I be able to replace that part of the cluster with a part that hadn't been tampered with?

As others have said, I have also seen the led broken off the board in order to disguise an issue.

Also check to make sure no one has removed the SRS fuse from the passenger fusebox
