KV6 cooling fan advice sought
I have an '05 V6 2.5 connie who's cooling fan has finally given up the ghost.
I've found a fan on ebay that may suit the bill as a replacement but I want to be sure its compatible, its come off a 1.8 petrol. What other information do I need to determine if it will be compatible for my V6 connie Cheers Paul |

Hi Paul. It will be no good for your car as the wiring is different in the control box, do you have a two wire 2 speed fan on your car at the moment ? you can find out by looking through the front grill at about 14.00 hours. If you see a silver resistor you have the above fan, if you do not see one then you most likely have a four wire 3 speed fan. If it is the silver resistor fan then most likely you will only need to change the resistor for a gold one. The four wire 3 speed the brushes will most likely have worn down, they can be changed but you do not know what condition the motor will be in until you have removed the fan and opened up the motor. 1 2 3 4 5 We have a meet next weekend if you could make it I think I may have a fan in the shed for a V6 link for meet is under my signature

Thank Arctic, that'll save me making an expensive error then
I can't see a resister, having peered through the grill, so it looks like it a three speed, once I get it off Ill have a closer look at the motor and see if its recoverable. If it isn't, and I need a new fan, should I be only looking for one from an 05 V6 or are there other compatible versions that will also fit? Cheers Paul |

A lot of members go for a fan with a silver resistor form a V6 2.0 2.5 to replace the 3 speed fan it is plug and play, but always changed the silver resistor for a gold one. You could always contact Jules for revotec fan that he supplies and fits link below https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...d.php?t=189409 If you are going to purchase from ebay second hand ask if it was working when removed You could always go for a new one. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rover-75-...wAAOSwstJZT~zH As above I may have one in the shed I can check later if you like

Surely a 2 speed resistor fan & control box from a 1.8 will also work with a KV6? Paul, Can you provide a link to the e-bay listing or the e-bay item number? Simon

It would but the wiring would need a bit of work in the control box, also the cowling is different. photo's of 1.8 and 2.0 V6 control box wiring. Also you have the after market fan and its wiring pics below.

Thanks Paul. That's a very unhelpful photo isn't it. It's impossible to confirm that it's a 2 wire resistor type. If you definitely have a 3 speed type at the moment, and you fancy a very satisfying and economical repair, then renewing the worn motor brushes is the best option. Make sure that you buy them from Engineering Carbon Products Ltd. though. Simon

Steve,
I'd not normally disagree with your acknowledged expertise but I'm with Simon here as just two months ago I fitted a 1.8 fan motor & wiring to my daughter's 2.5, it was plug & play. Did nothing to the control box as I'd never heard of any difference and the fan does work. Or is there something we aren't aware of? Regards, Mike |
