Default Windscreen wiper tapered insert wont go back on

I changed the KV6 spark plugs on my MG ZT yesterday which went well surprisingly well. However, I am having issues getting the passenger side wiper arm back on. The conical insert, that goes on top of the wiper arm and is then tightened by the bolt that goes on top of it, doesn't appear to want to go over the screw thread far enough to clear it so i can get the bolt on.

Does anyone have any idea why, or how I can get this to go down?

That’s a strange one! Any rough edges on the inside of the insert that may be stopping it?

HI Ian.
Offer the washer arm up the and on the spindle in the right position then when you have it in the right place push lightly down on the arm, insert the conical washer then add the nut, a few photo's blow for you.

You will be doing the reverse of the photo's as they are removing the wiper arm Arctic

See if you can pull the the spindle up further. If you can then there is something not holding the spindle out far enough.

Thanks for your responses.

Unfortunately It wont push down any further than shown in the pic. I haven't tried pulling the spindle up, will try that later when I get home, but I don't think that is the problem as there should be plenty of room to get the wiper arm and bolt on there if could get the conical insert down properly.

I might try buying a new insert and see if that help. Does anyone know if you can buy these parts separately from the wiper arm itself. I couldn't find the part on rimmer bros.

I would suggest it's a bit of what used to be called 'poverty' preventing it sliding down the spindle, maybe was overtightened last time and the leaves of the taper have taken a slight set (or even 'bend').

Hi Ian.
Hopefully you received the two taper conical inserts & you were able to complete the job and you now have wipers on your car?
