Retro fit a coolant level sensor
Hi members. I was on Brown & Gammons website and i saw they have a coolant level sensor kit for the MG F and the MG TF and it says "may also fit Rover 75" although the expansion tank is a different shape to the R75-ZTs, my 2004 1.8 facelift model does not have one of these, does anybody know if this "MG F kit" can be fitted as it does seem to be a good idea, ps I do check my coolant level often, but the sensor might give you some sort of notice if something went wrong say when you were driving. Advice welcome. Graham.

there is a thread from a couple of weeks back about the coolant level dash warning light which is on some 75s... but nobody seemed to think there was the gubbins to make it work! This might be an interesting new lead... but have a read of the thread if you can find it.

Fitting an interface sensor into the plastic header tank will be a daunting task for many people. Even a well designed adaptation will rely on the long-term effectiveness of the seal between the tank and the sensor. It could actually add to the problem of maintaining coolant levels. The idea of a custom-built metal adapter for insertion in a suitable hose has been raised and this could be a way forward. However, I'm personally favouring temperature rather than level monitoring cos it's already available. The IKP's diagnostic mode provides an accurate thermometer, which can be used while driving to provide an on-screen display. Once you become familiar with your engine's normal running temperature range, it will be possible to see when anything abnormal is afoot and do something about it very quickly. If we all had this display automatically, I suspect the incidence of HGF in the K18 would be much lower. I've seen this as well on the B&G's website. My local specialist in Bradford actually called B&G in my presence to query if it could fit and they replied that they were unaware of anyone to date making it fit the 75/ZT. Also I think the MGF fit includes a new header tank wth the sensor? There are also no upgrade coolant tanks (ie larger capacity) on the market.

I remember seeing an underbonnet snap of a V6 ZT with a coolant bottle fitted like a Rover 25. I think it was a pre production car that was going to be released.
