As you're the first to ask.......

I happened to have a set of steering wheel controls kicking around. So being an inquisitive type I took them apart. I was expecting the pplastic controls to be made of black plastic, and the writing applied over the top in white.......

But they are not...they are white and sprayed black..............(as you can see from the photo)

Which means if you apply a light to the rear, the writing is illuminated....

So 2 Led's later (thanks again David) I've come up with this

Now

The next problem is the feed. By chance (again) there is a live feed that the horn switches use via the relay. Now in the diagram, there appears to be a 120ohm resistor fitted. So I need to do a bit of testing to see if this can be adapted to power the led's as well.

Any opservations gratefully received.

Interesting! The wheel controls on the Zafira are illuminated, as are the window switches, simple things but effective

This is the first car I've driven that hasn't been illuminated.
