Default Wood rimmed steering wheels

Steve's recent post about his new walnut dashboard has got me wondering.

Were the wood rimmed wheels made of real wood? And if so did Project Drive change anything or were they the real deal right to the end of production?

I specced a wooden steering wheel on 51 plate 75 estate and I am 99% certain it was real wood unlike the NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- plastic for the dash. Within a couple of months I had replaced dash with a real wood one off eBay. I suspect the dismal grey dash and “wooden” wheel where plastic that came in with project drive. Those Leyland boys who purchased Rover for a tenner were masters at lining their own pockets and cutting costs and quality.
