Default cdti cooling fan

hi to all
the cooling fan on my rover 75 only comes on high speed and it has the silver resistor fitted how can i test the resistor to see if it is faulty and would replacing it with a gold resistor solve the fault

With ignition on or engine running, press the windscreen demist button on your air con./heater control panel. Now walk to the radiator grille to see if your fan is running.

hi to all
i tested the fan using a t4 there was no low speed only high is the resistor at fault and would replacing the resistor to a gold resistor sort it out and low speed would return

David yes change the silver resistor, for a gold one if the resistor is already gold then it as failed and needs replacing, there is an how to on here for changing it out.

PS make sure that the tails on the resistor have a good length of heat shrink on them, and use the original bracket to fix it to.

what if i replace the silver resistor for a gold resistor and it still does not work does that mean that the circuit board is at fault
