The standard thermostat allows the car to run in and around 88 degrees. The inline mod, seems to run slightly less (as you found out 84) . I think the majority used are 86 degree ones, but are more than adequate. I have a Wahler 89 degree inline stat and that runs around 87, which opens initially at 90/91, and then settles at 87 degrees, rising to 88 if I am accelerating. Over fueling issues may be due to an injector issue.

That’s definitely too cool buddy
I believe it should be 88-92 if not even more
Put a Renault stat in the top hose

You do not say which on line stat you have fitted - the Renault 5 one or the Specialist Components one. If it is the latter assembly fit stat FTS104.92 which is the 92 degree version.

Where can I get that stat from? The latter one? Car ran at 78 degrees this morning all the way to work. Not great!

Go into any Motor Factors or DMGRS on this forum has it on at a special price at the moment. I think it is a standard Ford or Vauxhall stat.

Well my 92 degree stat tends to run on the hot side and often goes up to 98 degrees before it opens
