Default Tracing family tree

Hi all, I'm tracing my family tree and have got back to the late 1700's and want to get back further. The national records office only goes back to 1837 (I think.) I believe, I have to look up parish records. I have no idea how on earth I go about that. Any ideas?

Smile tracing family

Hi Phil,

my brother in Law is a wiz at tracing family, he's been doing it for years. I am going to email him and ask if he would be willing to give you a few pointers. If he is ok about it I will send you his email address so that you both can communicate direct.

Be in touch soon, watch this space as they say.

Best regards,

Andy

Would be grateful if those pointers could be made public here Andy

However, if your inlaw will be doing himself out of a job by you posting the info here, we will all understand completely

Thumbs up Parish records

Hi All,

No he's ok about things like this, it's a hobby of his and his partner's, they have been doing for ages and have got quite good at it. He works for Sky and is out on the road at the mo but soon as he's home I'll call him and get some details for you all.

maybe 24 hrs or more before I track him down.

Cheers,

Andy

Local libraries often hold copies of parish records on rolls of microfilm , and they have the viewers to read them with. These will hold births , marriages and deaths going way back , but are in the handwriting of the local cleric and can get pretty difficult ! THey should be free to view for library members. County Council records offices will do searches but charge , and if you have a few false starts it can get a bit dear ....
Good luck.

I’ve managed to trace my family tree way back, mainly through Genes Reunited.
