How did you get on if you ventured under your car, I am going to lift my car on four ramps the weekend to give my MGZT a good inspection, hopefully I will not find anything to bad.

In the first pic, is the rubber pulling away from the centre ring at the top, or is it just a shadow??? You may need to zoom in to see what I mean.

Well spotted I have just seen the photo's of Chris lower wish bone mounts and yes they do loo to be delaminating, from the inner circle as I have depicted here below in the photo's with yellow dots. 1 2 Who knows how long it will be before they part completely as Chris says not many miles been done with them in situ ?

A bit worrying considering only about 6000 miles .. and then the cost of replacing them again ? ..
Will see how they fare in 6 weeks time @ the next mot . C

Hi again
Hi Folks
Still running them and the car passed a recent MOT as they don't look knackered and I haven't gotten around to fitting the Unipart ones yet but thats my next job as they clearly distort and allow too much movement of the arms even when new which gives a lousy ride on power take up, didn't feel great from the outset but has just gotten steadily worse, maybe the materials have changed or the supplier, who knows, I am sure Matt was unaware I only posted just to make people warey, I am sure Matt didn't know that some of these bushes are not up to the job, but that was the purpose of the OP, no big deal, a bit frustrating but not the end of the world and its not a safety issue so no drama but maybe a useful thread for others On a lighter note, AV54OFE just passed its MOT with no advisories at 120,000 miles Vaughan Last edited by Mangizmo; 8th August 2018 at 09:54.. |

An interesting read about these bushes, the topic is all about the quality of replacement bushes, even the ones from SAIC are not holding up as they should as far as I can see, a supplier changes from manufacturer to manufacturer on price dependency and the quality will invariably suffer so it seems a bit of pot luck when buying.
For proven quality I think going down the Powerflex route would be the best policy, there is minimal pricing difference and I know that the old bushes have to be pressed out and the poly bushes pressed in but to a competent diy mechanic there is nothing scary in that, a garage would happily fit these bushes if supplied. The purists may not agree but when we have to keep replacing bushes and links because of poor quality then another solution has to be looked at, I have recently fitted Powerflex anti roll bar bushes to the front of my ZT, I just wished they made them for the rear too. Here is a link to the Powerflex bushes. Powerflex |
