Its not the lock button but you could be right about the bbus Pete as the noise seems to come from that sort of direction but as it is intermittent and a short ping its hard to pin it down.....

My 1.8 Club has recently developed a single ding noise a minute or so after starting the engine and does it whether stood or on the move.

Has done this with just me in the car and also with a passenger when both seat belts have been in use.

The noise comes from behind the dash on the drivers side and is definitely via a speaker.

Any ideas?
