OK Julian that's good. So on the demist test (with ignition on) the fan doesn't run? If you have a multimeter we could check whether the fault lies with the motor or the control box.

Hi Julian,

The bad news is that you'll need access inside the control box.

Identify the large relay on the right hand side (this controls the low speed) and place your voltmeter on the terminal carrying the thick red wire. In demist mode do you see +12v there?

Simon

Your control box is working properly on slow speed so the fault lies with the motor. You can check the connections to your new brushes to find out where the break in the circuit is. You were also considering fitting the motor from a V6 petrol. You won't be able to use its control box so some soldering will be necessary. Is this spare motor a 4 wire type like yours?

Hello Julian,

The air conditioning needs the slow fan speed. Without it, when the car's stationary or travelling slowly, you'll get little or no cooling. On really hot days, when you need the air con. the most, you may find that it doesn't cool satisfactorily at all. The trinary switch may well disengage the compressor if pressures rise too high. This will only irritate you in the long term and it's not good practice to operate a system knowing that it has a faulty component.

My advice is to get it fixed!

Simon

Hi Julian.
If you get stuck take an hours drive over to me drop both the fans off, leave them with me and i will take a look at them for you, maybe i can make a good one out of the two, FOC once i know i will let you know to pick them back up.
