I know of a brand new Triumph Bonneville that spent more of its first year back at Meridan than on the roads. The owner was on first name terms with the guys on the gatehouse. His next bike? A Suzuki. Guess what? It was totally reliable. It didn't handle as well as the Triumph but it didn't vibrate everything to death and just went on, and on and on. He's stuck with Suzuki's for the last 3-4 decades. We had an 1275cc Allegro - brand new, with the Quartic steering wheel . It leaked , bits fell to pieces and the crowning glory was when it destroyed it's own gearbox because the bearings collapsed . My father, who worked at Austin in his younger days on the "Atlantic" (I think) and had had Austin's all his life never had another. He finished his motoring with a Toyota Yaris which was a superb car. Nothing broke, nothing fell off and it was absolutely reliable. When most folks look at paying out their hard earned money they don't want to be spending more on fixing stuff that shouldn't need fixing in the first place. I don't think there are that many that go Ohhh just LOOK at that, it's gorgeous/British etc.etc.. It's unreliable and thrown together but I'll buy it anyway. |

I think it should have been saved. Most other countries that have own brands did.
Italy (fiat,Alfa Romeo, lancia), France(Citroen,Renault) Sad that Sweden dropped saab though. Rover 75/zt range were a sign of great things to come. Pity we won't see the likes of them again. I've driven some modern cars and the missus has a XC60 which is pleasant enough but isn't anything special. Kia stonic(don't get me started), ford focus (unforgiving suspension), avensis/corolla(feel dated), some Peugeot's (ok but feel like they won't last) None like the 75, the ride setup is still impressive. |

Blimey! the quintessential British brand Bristol cars is all set to make a comeback with an electric four seater car in 2025 called the Bristol Buccaneer EV https://www.electrive.com/2021/05/11...entry-in-2025/
