All the ICE systems we ever tested for MG Rover while out in Australia hot climate testing worked fine. The only place they wont work is Japan as they operate on a different frequency.

Did you ever test things the other way round - i.e. will any Japan spec bits work in the UK? (In particular, the Hi line head unit and the GPS receiver).

We did some reworks on Japanese spec 75s and the head units all had to be replaced as the radios operate on different frequencies to the UK and rest of the world. So in answer to your question, Japanese head units wont work in the UK.

What about Japanese GPS recivers - did they work in the UK?
(Probably not methinks).

No I am afraid not.
Many DVD Sat Nav Computers appear on EBay as Rover 75 fitting.
Warnings have been put on Site by others and Myself.
DVD Units were never Fitted for UK Models.
They are Jap. Spec and DON'T work and cannot be made to.

I can confirm that JDC. The Jap Nav units will only work in Japan. (I have recently upgraded my Jap highline to a Mk4 BMW unit for this reason).

The Jap FM radio module will work in NZ and Aust (and I presume the UK) but only when used with a band expander.
The audio quality and success of this depends to a good degree upon the quality of the band expander. Additionally the frequency displayed on the highline screen will be not be correct (10, 12 or 14 MHz below the correct frequency depending upon the frequency of the band expander used).

I use a 14 MHz band expander on mine and have to admit that the Jap module with one fitted is surprisingly good. I guess that this is helped by being a reasonably good receiver to begin with.

When selecting a band expander go for the best you can afford. The higher frequency units have less “blank” spots and are therefore less prone to co-channel mixing. However this does depend to a large degree on your local FM transmitter frequency spacing and environment. A knowledgeable local dealer/technician should be able to assist further.

Thanks chaps - it seems fairly unanimous that the Japan spec GPS reciever won't work in the UK.

John - (if you remember our previous conversation about this) looks like there's not much point in testing the one I have on your car.
