Hi Karsten, So have you made the move over to Ireland yet? I'm living in Fermoy, Co. Cork... the main Rover dealer in Cork City was Top Car they still sell Range Rovers, so I'd imagine they would be able to service and maintain your car no problem. I find the easiest way to get parts is to order them from the UK and find a good mechanic to fit the parts etc. cheers!

Hi Karsten, I have recently purchased a 2005 rover 75 tourer cdti from the uk. It is on uk plates so I will be importing after July when the vrt rates and tax is based on co2 emissions. The saving is approx 1000 euros on vrt and 109 euros on yearly tax. Maybe your 2.5 will be better imported before then as high emission cars after July cost 2000 euros/year to tax

Before july 1st 2008

Engine Size

Annual Car Tax in € Euro
Not over 1,0001511,001 to 1,1002271,101 to 1,200 2511,201 to 1,300 2721,301 to 1,400

From July 1st 2008

Band A: cars that produce 0-120g/km CO2 - €100 road tax;
Band B: cars that produce 121g - 140g/km CO2 - €150 road tax;
Band C: cars that produce 141g-155g/km CO2 - €290 road tax;
Band D: cars that produce 156g-170g/km CO2 - €430 road tax;
Band E: cars that produce 171g-190g/km CO2 - €600 road tax;
Band F: cars that produce 191g-225g/km CO2 - €1,000 road tax;
Band G: cars that produce 226g/km CO2 and over - €2,000 road tax

As you can see it is a lot cheaper to import a big powerful engine now. The vrt on your car now would be 30% of value but after july 36%. I think the 2.5 v6 is 229g/km. The yearly tax will remain the same if you import before july and willl not change after July .

I ordered a new key from this rover dealer in blanchardstown last week and they were very helpful. Cheers

Karsten, just remembered. If you can prove you have owned and used the car abroad and have all relevant documents to prove it, then you can import for free. It would be worth it still before july as your car tax will increase after july, good luck.

Not very cheap at all over there for the V6 or V8's.
Even the Diesels are much more Expensive to Tax.

Default Back in the Uss... no ROI

Thanks for all your kind answers.
I relocated to the ROI and will stay in Dublin town, that's where the job is.
Still, the 75 is on UK plates, but given the changes in roadtax, she'll have to be registered here by the end of May to avoid the CO2 tax.
Well, I own her since 01.01.07, so I should not have to pay VRT - a slight relief.

While I'm at it... a source for cheap tires in Dublin? The Irish tarmac seems to be a bit eating into the tires, methinks...

Once again, thanks,

Karsten

If you're ever travelling from Dublin to Cork on the N8/M8 there's a tyre wholesaler - The Rathcormac Tyre Center that is as cheap as www.eiretyres.ie when you add on the fitting charge/disposal charge you have to pay a local tyre center to fit tyres bought from eiretyre. The garage is between Fermoy and Cork in a lil town called Rathcormac. I buy all my tyres there now at almost wholesale price!

Karsten - when you've got some free time go and have a look at Glandore (SW Cork). Some gorgeous places around there. Some damned good pubs too!

PS. Watch out for lunatic sheep dogs - they'll attack your wheels while you're driving along.

Karsten, just found out a couple of days ago that 2nd hand cars imported will if the emissions are in the high band ie. above 225g/km be taxed on emissions rather then engine size, so your car would be 2000 euros a year after june rather than 821 euros/year now. So I recommend you import now. Good luck

Peelaa,

Glandore is on the road to Skibereen, isn't it?
well, this stretch of coast and then the Ring of Beara (who wants to drive the Ring of Kerry with al the buses?) is one of my favourite stretches of road in the South ;-)

Thanks for the hint with the registration, I've googled it recently and - yes - she has to go on Irish plates by June...
