Default cost to change registration to portuguese

Hi,

Does anyone know the cost of re registering the car in Portugal.

I have a 2005 75 Diesel saloon.

Are there import duties on an old car etc

Also the time limit and could I keep the car there on UK plates and for how long

Thanks

If you're still after info on this, for that car it would cost about 8600€ in all, as it pays a percentage of tax (greatly reduced in view of being over 5 years old) and a percentage to do with C0 levels and particle emissions. Count on 3-4 months hassle to get it all done, plus it would then pay 239 € yearly of road tax. Alternatively, as there is no real record of when first imported, just keep it on GB plates... even if you should be fined (very slim chance!) 160€ is still much cheaper option! http://www.guiadoautomovel.pt/simulimp.php Hope this helps

Cheap ferry one a year, get it MOT'd in Britain to add weight to not being imported.

Thanks (Muito Obrigado) Guys,
Problem is then insurance isn't it you're only allowed 60 days abroad and need a UK address as residency I suspect.
You do always see a lot of UK plates there people not on holiday and I do wonder the loophole if any.
It needs to be viable I mean cheaper than buying a Portuguese car.
I've spent so much on my Rover and would hate to have to sell it now.

use a relatives address as your residency, and insure it at that same address....
