Jacking up the Tourer car

I need to put the front end up on stands to do some work.

I know where the jacking points are on the sills but I'm guessing that's where I need to put the stands. So where's the best place to jack it up leaving the sill points free?

rear mount of the subframe nearest to mud flap/rear of the wheel arch

it would need a very high jack to jack from there. I would be wary using it as an axle stand point too, due to it's proximity to the bumper.

Jack it up using the front central jack point. Place the stands under the sill jack pads. Remember to chock the rear wheels, a brick a side is sufficient. The front suspension and brakes can be 'played' with and anything requiring access as far back as the bulk head/plenum is reasonably easy. Solid as a rock like this. If at all worried or uncertain, 1) place the wheels you take off under the sills behind the axle stands, and 2) have someone else with you - not both under the car together though!

P.S do not try and jack it high enoug with the scissor jack in the emergency wheel kit, this is only for jacking under the sill pads to change a wheel and no higher! Use a quality trolley jack is best for any jacking work.

I tried that but even with a trolley jack I couldn't get it high enough to get an axle stand under the sills. I even tried putting a couple of paving slabs under the rear wheels.
Maybe I need a bigger jack.

You do Neil. My thirty year old bog standard Halfords trolley jack will do it!

Even with the standard jack wound up to its max(never recommended!), is just too short for the first pin hold in my axle stands. So I just use the stands without them raised. which is fine for wheel work anyway. I try to keep the jack would just under tension on the sill, as well as wheels under the sills, belt and braces.

I've tried the central point, but do not have faith in my 2 tonne jack, always felt its seals were about to give way. With the jacking pads, I have always feared them being ripped up with my trolley jack, or slipping back and damaging the sill. So I always use the sub frame for axle stands and trolley jack.
