Default French number plates

Morning all,
I completed the import paperwork for my car recently and so it has a new French registration number. Now I need to buy it some new french plates. Does anybody know where I can get plates done with a rounded rear plate suitable for a 75?
Demon plates said they didn't know the rules for France. The plates on my wife's car which I bought 8 years ago have the skinny font I associate with France while I noticed my sons car which was plated a few months back uses a more robust font which to me looks like the same type face used on a UK plate. Anyway it would be better to keep the gendarmes away so I would prefer to minimise risk and buy a plate in France guaranteed homologué

This would be useful information as I plan to move to the South of France in 2018.

Unfortunately for us, 75 enthusiasts, you can't have French plates made in the specific rounded format that we know...because they are simply not legal. All French plates have to be the of the exact, legal dimensions. If you manage to make one in the rounded format, you are likely to get fined if stopped by law enforcement forces.

What if you mount the plate on a Rover shaped white piece of perspex?

Thanks for that which explains why none of the websites here in France are selling rounded plates. I will stay within the law as I don't the attention of the law.

You can do that and that's exactly what I've had on my car for the last 9 years. It goes through the CT ( Mot ) every time with no problems.--

Hi Colvert,
Can you post a picture of how your back number plate looks, as the question will arise for me in the very near future, having just brought back into France a handsome Connoisseur SE 2.5 V6...
TIA,
Leachim

Sorry but I don't have a pic of it at the moment.

I'm not really keen on how it looks but it complies with the legal requirements.

I had a smilie plate made up by a French plate maker. Looked OK.

Then what was needed on the plate was changed by the French government so I just riveted a standard size plate to the middle of it.

Have been thinking about the latest info printed on to a French smilie plate.

It will have all the info required but will seem as though it's on a large white background. Just like if a std plate was on a white car.

Will have to make some enquiries of the local Gendarmes.
