Air conditioning
Tried to get my 75 a/con regassed today but garage said there was a leak somewhere in the system and referred me to a specialist. Gather it could be a gasket or leak in the condenser. If it's the latter and that needs replacing is it possible to locate the part and does anyone have an idea of the cost of the job? Would it be possible to use a second hand part?

A specialist should be able to find the leak with a UV light, so that woudl be the best place to start.
If it's going to leak then it may well be the condenser or the O rings on it - I believe one of the engine variants can rub through one of the pipes, so that might be one areas. You're probably looking at around £80 - 90 for a condenser if it is, I don't know what sort of cost you would be looking at for a garage to do as there is quite a bit of dismantling of the front of the car to access. I changed mine myself after having a mobile mechanic empty and recharge it. |

Some garages refuse to use customers own parts nowadays, so bear that in mind.
I have a new condenser and agree with the price mentioned. To change the condenser all the front needs to come off. The slam panel can be removed with headlights still attached. There is a How To about doing that. So, front bumper off, slam panel off, fan moved out of the way, and access can then be gained

Many thanks for the prompt replies. Will have to see what the tests uncover. The guy did say it might be just a gasket so that would be an easy fix. Can't imagine going through a hot summer in a black car with no aircon

Hi Don. if it's the condenser a new one can be fitted in about 2 hours, if you know what you are doing, first time i would say 3 hours. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CONDENSER...T/283687728162 You will also need new condenser O-ring seals. 1 2 3 4 Front off the car, bumper, slam panel with lights, fan, then the condenser. 5 I was changing out the fan as well as the condenser. 6 7 Fan off to gain access to the condenser. 8 Then condenser it's self off. 9 10 11 Take the bumper off anyways to check the condenser through the fan blades, but of cause it could be a leaking joint, or hose, specialist should be able to find the leak.
