No Water from Screen Washers
Hi All
Bit of an odd one, well I think so. So decided to change my washer bottle as it leaks from a split, so I keep having to fill it every journey, but the washers worked fine when there was water. So I bought a new one from Rimmers which came with all the rubber motor fitments already in place and fitted it today. Pain of a job having to remove the bumper and headlight but hey ho. So replaced the bottle and put the motors back, note I never unplugged them from the water pipes and put about 2.5l in the bottle, no leaks so all seemed good. When I pull the stalk the motor whizzes away and the wipers come on, err but no water? Seems odd, I could understand the motor not working at all as its been removed from the bottle and disconnected from the electrics but its making the correct noises but just no water and I’ve let it pump for ages and tried it 20 plus times but no joy. Any suggestions what might be wrong for the Stupid One as I’m out of ideas Ta Bean |

"So I bought a new one from Rimmers which came with all the rubber motor fitments already in place and fitted it today." May sound silly but was it the "filter" rubber seal for the pump not just a bung? |

Just a thought, did you somehow kink or trap the washer hose on reassembly?
Other than a restricted hose the only other reason would be the water isn’t getting to the pump for some reason, as you stated the washers were working previously and you are still using the same pump it's unlikely to be a fault with that (I.e. the 'filter' supplied with the washer bottle is just a packing bung to prevent dirt ingress into the bottle during storeage). In case no water is getting into the pump don't run it for long as the seals depend on water to lubricate them. Otherwise they will heat up and melt.---

This was my fear, ruin the pump by running it to long. So i tried the pump with no tubes attached, pumped great. So then i took the tube off the bonnet nozzle end so it would be easy for the pump to push water through the pipes. Idea worked a treat and once primed all ok, washers working. By the way the new washer bottle (not cheap) does not come with a filter just a rubber seal, so i used the old filter. Cheers Bean |
