I spent half of yesterday attacking the front suspension on the CDTi which I've been putting off since I bought new everything in January. On the list has been:
ARB links outer tie rod ends bottom wishbones and bushes Started on the right side. Everything went much better than I'd anticipated (including the infamous bush bolts - I acquired the 18mm combo/flexi ratchet spanner) except for the top ARB link nut which didn't want to know. Out came the angle grinder and 3 minutes later, it came off. And so did part of the mount on the strut base. So.... ... what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I'd thought about replacing the shockers but after changing the springs last year, didn't want to face all that malarkey again. Well, I had to now so that was okay. Today I revisited a couple of How-Tos on the site and decided to split the hub carrier from the strut rather than take the hub off. I won't say they fell off, but they came off far more easily than I thought they would. The lower hub pinch bolt on the left side was particularly non-cooperative at first but I got there in the end. Extra parts arrive Monday including both struts & dampers, top bearings, and inner tie rods as it seemed daft not to with everything stripped out. (The old stilsons did their bit today which also pleased me no end). So I'm looking forward to reassembling pretty much all the front suspension & steering - hopefully the car will feel rejuvenated - and me, after some Dougie.

After fitting the new n/side front caliper the other day, went for a drive last night, or should I say, tried to Forgot to bleed the brakes So today bled the new caliper, thought I'd do the others too, well, one of them anyway N/side rear was fine, replaced that last year, but both off side nipples wouldn't budge So, half bled at least

Dropped the ZT off for a tracking check and adjust after I fitted the alloys I had got back yesterday from the refurbisher. Now finished in Mistral Anthracite they look great, really chuffed with the colour and they fair change when the light hits them. The centre caps are being painted, with new centre badges and be with me come Monday and will fire them back on.

Just fitted the MG7 climate control unit today, had thought about getting the new stereo and reverse camera in. However in the end I couldn’t be bothered, maybe do that when I’m off on Monday now.

Dougie.

I finished moving the Sport/Eco mode from the stupidly-placed switch to the left of the gear shift, to the push-button on the end of the indicator stalk. This was a mod I did about 18 months ago on my CDTi and after giving it the 7-day test on the new ZT (and failing), I'm a happy bunny again.
I've put a separate thread on the mod here in the How-To section. Dougie.
