I have delved in to the plenum, lifted the ecu up and removed the top cover.
By peering down the side i can see that my ecu does bear the same VIN code as the car does, so it appears to be the original ecu. However i can tell by the scratches on the cover and the fact that one clip is broken that this ecu has been opened up in the past, although never in my ownership. Does this suggest to the T4 experts anything useful? I would check the auto inhibit switch referred to in earlier posts except i have no idea where it is located. Any pointers would be appreciated. I didnt make a note of it. I will check it again in the morning.
The label i took the VIN number from was on the side of the metal inner part, it wasnt on the plastic cover. You mean the number on top of the plastic outer cover? |

You mean it is upside down in the plastic box?
It didnt seem to want to come out of the box, and the 2 wiring grommits seem quite at home where they are. Never having looked at one before i have nothing to compare with. At least with it that way up, you can see the labels without unplugging it. |

Didn't even think it was possible to put it in upside down, can honestly say I haven't seen that before. Someone has definitely been messing around in there, my next question would be has someone put a replacement ECU core in your original case. Russ
