This is an excellent book and explains the history of MG and Cecil Kimber's ideas behind the marque, well worth a read:

Yes the basic bodyshells are the same but that's about where the similarities end
The suspension setup is somewhat different between both marques
The mg models although sportier where sparce in comparison to the rover models in extra equipment
The real difference between them though can only be noted whilst driving
Having owned both I can tell you they drive completely differently

Nailed it. Now on my third 75, second MG so I can say it again nailed it.

Its the history, style and performance behind the two different badges that people relate too, and would know the differences.

Rover was founded back in 1878, while MG Cars was a sports car manufacturer which began life in the 1924.

Rover 75's and MG ZT's are similar, but different.

Steering an ZT is different to steering a 75 (pre 2003 at least). I found it quite noticeable. It is what a driver notices first (IMO) when setting off.

I have often been uncomfortable saying MG for it really is a badge engineered 75 really, much the same way an MG Metro/Maestro/Montego, 1300 et al were. Simply a relatively inexpensive method of catering to another customer base that would otherwise walked by. Also allows men to have a mild mid life crisis without looking too ridiculous lol.

Default MGZT v Rover 75

Quite simple this, an MGZT is a hooligan express, whereas a 75 is a gentleman's club on wheels.

To drive a ZT you ideally need to be a tattooed yobbo, as opposed to a 75 where a quilted smoking jacket and a cigar will suffice nicely.

They look similar, but drive completely differently, however a lot of the plus points of ZT ownership can be summed up in Contemporary 75 guise, but slightly less skinhead and Doc Martens, but still Ben Sherman and Harrington jacket

You can drive a ZT round a bend without feeling you're going to fall off the road

If cars were music genre's, a 75 would be classical and a ZT would be heavy rock.
