V8 Misfire in heavy rain
Hello folks
My car has developed a misfire but only when in heavy rain. I have waited until the car had been serviced to see if this fault cleared but no joy. My local mechanic who has serviced the car for eight years was made aware so did look for any possible indication of the fault when servicing. The last service was job lot so no servicable part was not changed. They also plugged in their own diagnostic equipment but found no logged faults. So will a T4 show a logged misfire and what cylinder? Any other suggestions welcome. Steve |

I'm not familiar with the V8 but this will be HT related so check if water is dripping or spraying onto the HT leads, spark plugs or coil pack. I assume the engine doesn't have a distributor, otherwise that'd be first place to check.

Could easily be that , but a leaky washer only affects Cylinder no 8 NS rear plug. Can be either the pipe leaking or rain coming around the jet from outside
had both those on Number 50 , but a new pipe and some sealant around the jet sorted it .. If its not cylinder 8 then look elsewhere . C.

Not ignition but air-intake, I suspect. Water leaking in at or near a joint on the engine-side of the air filter causing the MAF sensor to get soaked.
Check that the triangular panel in the lower corner of the bumper, UK drivers' side, is present and properly fitted (wrongly called a 'brake-duct panel'). Check that all visible air-intake pipe joints are intact and not broken apart. Use duct tape over the visible joints. David Last edited by dbt01; 8th October 2017 at 09:52.. |

Thanks to all, I have posted the same on the two sixties and the sealing of the inlet track joint with addition of tape will be first to be addressed. I will then wait for the next torrential down pour and report back on both forums. If this is not the cure I will move on to other suggestions received.

The taping of the inlet track joint as per the Dreadnought garage instructions seems to have completely rectified this annoying problem. Unfortunately I have since thrown a con-rod through the side of the engine block!!! New engine required.
