On the budget front they must be one of the most affordable manual V8 saloons to buy and own even with prices seeming to be firming.
I bought my own back in 2008 for the pricely sum of £10450 with a years warranty, tyres, serviced and MOT at point of purchase. The car was near new condition with just 10000 miles on the clock. Over my 10 years of ownership I have fitted new green alcantara seat covers and fitted the Kenne Bell S/C with Brian at Dreadnought Garage early 2010. Over that period I have fitted the rear discs as supplied via the 260 forum plus the heater hose and fuel clip, must do's! The general servicing had all been done local to me with reference to all the information found again on the 260 Forum. The car did have a major failure late October last year when it threw a conrod killing the engine. Give I had the use of another car there has been no rush to get things done and I hope to have the car back on the road within the month with the total repair bill including a 7000 mile engine all done for under £3k. Try that with any of the above mentioned cars. Now my son will not let me sell this car "It belongs in the family" and he has put his claim on it when I am too old!! So to close I have loved the last 10 years and look forward to the next 10 all going well. Not the cheapest car to own and run but as a very tight Jock as bang for your buck look no further. This was my second of now five 75 cars loved them all but this one is very special to me. Regards Steve |

There is pleast of sub 6k V8 Saloons, as long as it has a big cat on it!
When it come to class, the Jag has it S-Stype - Very reasonable price in the V8 form. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JAGUAR-S-...QAAOSwvRdbU64Q Although I always preferred the XJ8/R https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JAGUAR-S-...QAAOSwvRdbU64Q Or bit more money and hooliganism, BMW 540, V8 with 300bhp! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2006-BMW-...4AAOSwovFbSQ58 |

I agree about the S-type having class. For me, the only BMW V8 worth driving is the 650i. But none of the German V8's can be purchased for £20k with less than 30k miles on the clock. This is what makes the75/ZT V8 special - being able to enjoy the finer things in life with a touch of class, whilst still being able to call yourself a socialist. Should you have a V8 of the German variety, When you take it to a garage, expensive or not at least their diagnostics will read the car. As far as I'm aware you can only get parts of a 75 or ZT V8 read

I was at an MG meet yesterday where there was 70 cars and over 800 members of the public visiting, not huge numbers compared to down south but respectable for up here. I’d a steady stream of people admiring my Supercharged V8 and asking questions and one guy was nearly drooling over it. I mentioned how people just don’t get the MG Rover V8 thing and he said he totally gets it and it’s a waste of time trying to convince doubters as they’ll just never get it. Yes there are other V8 cars out there but none can come close to what these cars can give an enthusiast and that’s where I’ll leave it. As an owner I get it and couldn’t care less if others don’t

All down to personal taste and choice at end of the day. My 180 will do for me as it's to be used for fun and to keep hold of something that harks back to bygone days subtly and possibly sublimely in its styling. My passion now is more with 4x4s which is likely not shared by many members but, like I said, is all down to personal taste. Just enjoy what you drive and it doesn't matter whether it garners the approval of anyone else, unless that is important to you. |
